A world first initiative, the Dementia Design Showcase is a collection of leading-edge dementia specific design work of selected international architects. Featuring innovative and thought-provoking solutions supporting best practice principles in dementia design, the collection will help to answer the question ‘Are we there yet?’. If you are an architect, interior/exterior designer, work in the construction industry or curious about dementia design, then you will not want to miss the Dementia Design Showcase.
The pieces showcased will provide inspiration to see how key dementia design principles have been incorporated to provide people with dementia the feeling of being at home, and foster feelings of comfort, safety and security. They also provide lessons for the broader community on how to make our shared spaces places that are safe, welcoming and accessible for all.
Key to this showcase is its uniqueness by bringing together principles we have been hearing about into tangible environments and also highlight how far we have come from and how far we need to go in designing spaces that value people with dementia, promote their independence, and help them to function at their best.
Selected works from the Dementia Design Showcase will be highlighted and reviewed by our panel of design experts in the Principle to Practice – design review panel
held on Friday 17th June in the afternoon concurrent sessions.
