Professional Bio

Kate is the Chief executive officer of Three Tree Lodge. She is passionate about the recruitment and retention of aged care employees in the Central West. Three Tree Lodge Aged Care Service - a community based organisation that operates a residential aged care service at Lithgow, in the Central Tablelands of NSW - had its accreditation in 2018 by the Australian aged care quality agency and showed the high level of care they take with their residents, staff and visitors. Their extension had been carefully designed based upon the ‘household model of care’ intended to provide a home-like environment for all the residents. And the clinical indicators showed that residents displaying distressed behaviour has had a massive reduction since the opening of the home. They found previously residents would be living in a place that looked like a hospital, so they would want to go home, but now they can live in a place that was home. Items that were previously on show, such as the hand basins and fire extinguishers, are now hidden in cupboards to make the house feel less clinical.

Kate is a registered nurse who has extensive experience working in the aged care industry having held a range of clinical, education and management roles. She is the principal of Aged Care Advice and Training and in her consultancy role she has worked with a large range of small and large residential and community aged care services to establish and operationalise quality management systems, develop governance structures and mechanisms to manage clinical and other risks, refine clinical documentation systems, review and respond to non-compliance with Accreditation Standards and external complaints and to implement strategies to enhance human resource deployment and development.

Kate has also undertaken a number of projects in the vocational education and training sector and has a passion for teaching. Through the varied consultancies Kate has gained a broad knowledge and understanding of the complex issues surrounding the delivery of services to older people.
