Working in partnership to build capacity in Blue Care, through training and collaboration, to support people living with dementia

Presentation Description

In 2018 Blue Care was invited to become an industry partner with Hammond Care to assist with capacity building as part of their Dementia Support Program. Two participants were chosen who had a passion to further improve the quality of life of people living with a diagnosis of dementia, Nerida Pankhurst and Jeanne Daly.
In 2018 they undertook a rigorous six month training program where they were introduced to and worked with Hammond Care’s regional teams, resulting in successfully attaining foundation level as Industry Partner Dementia Consultants, with successful reaccreditation this year.
This partnership has equipped both Nerida and Jeanne as first response consultants for their geographical clusters in Blue Care, resulting in a better quality of life for their consumers, increased support for staff and less referrals to Dementia Support Australia.
It has also resulted in knowledge translation, building capacity for Nerida and Jeanne to introduce strategies for change to support people living with a diagnosis of dementia, resulting in more sustainable outcomes.
They now have an improved understanding of a more holistic way to support people living with a diagnosis of dementia in both community and residential services and have developed professionally as part of this unique experience.
